Welcome to the third edition of EOWA News Alert. This edition focuses on
the issue of violence against women and what your business can do to
help prevent it. Friday 25th
November is White Ribbon Day and we have included details of events
being held across Australia to raise awareness of this important issue.

The cost of domestic violence
 |
A study, commissioned under the
Australian Government's Partnerships Against Domestic Violence
initiative, found that domestic violence cost Australia $8.1 billion
in 2002-03. The direct cost to
business of domestic violence is estimated to be $1.5 billion. $28 million is lost through absenteeism,
$6 million in staff turnover and $600 million is lost through
lower productivity.

Violence against women is your business.
Employers with domestic violence policies and trained staff in place
are able to take early action to provide information and access to
professional services which may prevent major productivity losses
through absenteeism and reduced work rates. For further information
