| Title: | A Call To Action In Achieving EEO For Women |
| Date: | 30 November 1999 |
Speaking at a seminar in Melbourne, Affirmative Action Agency (now the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency) Director, Fiona Krautil said that changes in how things are done needs to come from the top.
“Corporate heads need to walk the talk before any bigger and more significant benefits are felt in our employment arena and our society as a whole,” Ms Krautil said.
“Today we are celebrating what best practice organisations
have achieved. In many cases, these achievements have been significant
and have led to change occurring throughout the organisation.
“These companies have proven that putting in place strategies to improve
EEO for women, produces significant dollar savings for their business.
“However, we cannot afford to rest on our laurels and think that all the hard work has been done.
“Our next challenge is to change the workplace culture. This cannot be done without powerful leadership,” Ms Krautil said.
Other speakers at the seminar Women in the Workplace – Opportunities for business in the new millennium included Reg Hamilton, Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Susan Halliday, Sex Discrimination Commissioner, and Rohan Squichuk, Council for Equal Opportunity in Employment Limited.
Recognition was given at the Celebrating Best Practice
Lunch of the Affirmative Action Agency (now the Equal Opportunity for
Women in the Workplace Agency) best practice organisations by
The Hon Peter Reith MP, Minister for Employment, Workplace Relations
and Small Business.
