Gender pay gap short-changes women $250.50 a week

Australia's working women earn 17.4% less than their male colleagues, based on new ABS data. The Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency (EOWA) has calculated the gender pay gap based on average weekly ordinary time earnings for men and women.

Employers compete to be first choice for women

The war for talent is heating up, according to Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency (EOWA) Director, Helen Conway, with 125 organisations qualifying for the Agency’s national EOWA Employer of Choice for Women (EOCFW) citation this year. This is the largest group in five years, despite the Agency imposing more stringent selection criteria over this period.

EOWA looks forward to promoting gender equality

The Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency (EOWA) welcomes the tabling of the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency Amendment Bill 2012 (the Bill) today.

Under the Bill the Agency will become the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) and will focus on facilitating gender equality in Australian workplaces. It will put particular emphasis on promoting equal remuneration between men and women and eliminating discrimination on the basis of gender in relation to caring and family responsibilities.

EOWA Gender Pay Gap - A Persistent Problem
29 February 2012

Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency (EOWA) Director, Helen Conway, today expressed her disappointment and deep concern in relation to the persistent gender pay gap.

The latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (Average Weekly Earnings Survey) shows that, in November 2011, the gender pay gap (based on average weekly ordinary time earnings of full-time adult employees) was 17.6 per cent.
