 Home : Developing a Workplace Program : What is a Workplace Program

A workplace program is aimed at eliminating discrimination and contributing to equal opportunity for women in the workplace.

EOWA has developed a six-step program for designing and implementing a workplace program:

Step 1 Prepare a workplace profile.
Step 2 Analyse the issues for women in your workplace considering each of the Employment Matters.
Step 3 Prioritise your issues.
Step 4 Take action to address your priority issues.
Step 5 Evaluate the effectiveness of your actions.
Step 6 Summarise future actions.

To create an environment where women are able to achieve equal opportunity, a workplace program needs to address seven key areas, known as the Employment Matters.

  • Recruitment and selection;
  • Promotion, transfer and termination of employment;
  • Training and development;
  • Work organisation;
  • Conditions of service;
  • Arrangements for dealing with sex-based harassment; and
  • Arrangements for dealing with pregnant and potentially pregnant employees and employees who are breastfeeding.

Throughout the process of developing a workplace program, you need to consult with both male and female employees.

EOWA has developed a number of tools to assist you in preparing your workplace program and reporting on it.
