EO or Diversity Committees are forms of task group which meet regularly to discuss equity and diversity issues and to refer issues of concern to management for action / resolution.

Examples of organisations which use EO or Diversity Committees

IBM
IBM's Diversity Council is chaired by the CEO and represented by all tiers of employees within the organisation.

The council meets every two months and each member of the Council takes on a project or sponsorship.

40 Diversity Contact Officers also support the Council’s work, each from different parts of the business and across all levels, who work as conduits regarding diversity matters. Information is also gained from organisation-wide employee opinion surveys, women’s conferences and diversity networking groups.

Sara Lee Household and Body Care
The company set up a panel of 15 volunteers to identify any issues that concerned employees. The Committee members were encouraged to talk to other staff about what concerned them at work and to meet once a month to explore the subjects.
One of the issues this Diversity Team discovered was that, particularly for women, employees spent a lot of their week-end time tied up with domestic matters which took away precious time from their families.

Sara Lee Household and Body Care made this a priority issue and introduced domestic services accessible from work.
