Issue 1 - Things That Could Be Going Wrong
  • people assume staff come with the right values, and will operate in a fair way –the mistake is to assume others have done your EO educative work
  • a failure to identify sexism or a limited understanding of the subtle ways it can have a negative impact
  • the way people use humour and language reveals their underlying personal views - never forget – many a true thought revealed in jest
  • while humour can be used to make a relevant point, it can also reveal a sexist mindset, giving clear messages about how, where and why women are seen to fit in
  • decisions made from a sexist perspective are not challenged as they are dressed up using terminology that ties the decisions to business strategy and company success goals
